What Does Cherokee Offer?

Cherokee County is a great place to live, work, and play. It has one of the best school systems in the entire metro Atlanta area, plenty of local business for work and shopping, a great parks and recreation system, and several different cities to choose from. Canton and Ball Ground both have wonderful historic downtown areas with community events, shopping, and restaurants, but also offer wooded acreage where you can escape everyday stresses. Head just 5 miles south on I-575 to the City of Woodstock and you’ll find a whole different living experience! A vibrant and busy downtown area offers plenty of hip restaurants, boutique shops, and public parks, connected throughout the city by the Greenprints multi-use trail system. Enjoy Woofstock Dog Park with your furry friend, or head over to The Outlet Shoppes to shop ‘til you drop! Want to be close to the action, but just far enough to avoid the traffic? For a more secluded city with less hustle and bustle, head to the northern Cherokee County to the city of Waleska. This small but thriving community is home to Reinhardt University, which features a vibrant local theater scene that welcomes traveling musicians and performers. Locals love it! Here, you can find lakefront lots, golf course views, and breathtaking views of the Appalachian Mountain foothills.

Schools

The Bartow County School District is a great school system for your children to attend! With options for taking advanced placement classes for college credit, to a wonderful graduation rate, you can rest easy knowing your kids are getting a quality education. Belong.” Located about 45 miles north of Atlanta in the rolling North Georgia hills, this vibrant community is home to several historic sites, museums, and points of interest, including the Booth Western Art Museum, Etowah Indian Mounds Historic Site, and more.

 

Adairsville, like most cities in the county, is a small and charming southern city, with plenty of history! The entire county, including the cities of Cartersville, Adairsville, Emerson, Euharlee, Kingston, and White, are steeped in history, from Native American sites and artifacts, to Antebellum photographs and Civil War history, your new home has a fascinating past!

Community Resources

Bartow’s local newspaper is The Daily Tribune News, and you can find information about the library system at the Bartow County Library System website. At the county’s many local parks and facilities, you can also enjoy hiking trails, beautiful scenery, camping, and more!

Beige, taupe, gray, white, off-white, cream, soft blue, olive green, red, lavender, the options are endless when deciding on colors for your new custom home… so what do you pick? Here are some things to consider when picking the color scheme for your new home interior and exterior.

Curb Appeal

The color palette you choose for the exterior of your house has a huge impact on the home’s curb appeal. Before choosing a color or colors to use on the exterior of your home, you should consider the climate in your location, colors of surrounding homes, the natural landscape, and your own taste in home aesthetics. You may choose to hire an exterior design specialist to help you choose the best options for your area and situation. Once you’ve found the color or colors you think you want to use, it’s a good idea to look up that exact color in Google image search or another web image search. Look at how other homes appear when painted with your colors, and make sure you know how that color or colors will look in full sun versus full shade, as colors can appear very different depending on the lighting conditions.

Consider the Space

The color of a room can set its tone. For small or dark rooms, going with deep, super saturated, or dark colors may make the space feel squeezed. If you want to make a room seem larger, go with lighter tones to brighten up the room. On the other hand, if a room feels to large or open, you may consider going with a deeper, warmer, or darker color to make the room feel more cozy.

Personality and Feel

Generally speaking, warm tones like mellow shades of yellow or brown give a warm, cozy feel, while cooler tones like gray and blue have more of a calming effect. Tones like green or orange can be energetic, and shades of red or black can make a big impact! When choosing your color, think about the mood you’d like when you walk into a room and consider that in your decision. For a library or bedroom you may want a cozy space, and for a bathroom or kitchen you might want to lighten things us with an energizing blue.

Color Coordinating Room to Room

Once you’ve thought about the mood you’d like for each room, it’s important to consider how these colors flow from room to room in your house. Can you see the attached bath from your bedroom? Does your open floor plan connect the kitchen, living room, and dining area? Then you’ll probably want to choose interior colors that flow well from room to room, or choose several-room sections of your home to be painted in coordinating colors.

Resale

It’s common to repaint your home prior to selling, but what colors should you select? Buyer preference can vary from year to year, depending on recent color trends, but a good rule of thumb is to choose somewhat neutral or soft colors. That way, potential buyers feel like the space is open, and they can envision themselves customizing the house.

Consider Temperature and Season

Cool and dry weather is the best climate for beginning a new home construction project. Cooler temperatures mean better working conditions for the people who are building your home, and dry weather means less rain delays, and less moisture during the build. A light rain every now and then won’t cause trouble, but extended heavy rain for several days on exposed lumber can cause some problems down the line, like mold and squeaky stairs. By beginning construction on a new home in the winter when temperatures are cool and dry, you can avoid potential weather delays and help prevent maintenance problems down the line.

When Do You Want to Move In?

Building a new custom home takes some time, so it’s a good idea to think about when you want to move in. Would you rather move in while the kids are out of school? Do you prefer moving in the summer or fall, as opposed to spring or winter? All of these are things to consider when you decide to start a custom house build. Starting construction in the winter means you’ll have nicer weather for moving in, and you’ll get to enjoy not only your new home, but also your new yard, as soon as it’s completed!

Snow or Rain

In Georgia, it can be difficult to predict what the weather will do tomorrow, next week, or next month, so there’s no way to avoid all potential weather setbacks on a job site.
Rain or snow in the winter, just like in the spring summer, or fall, can still cause a delay. But bottom line, if you’re planning to build a custom home, winter can be an excellent time to start your new home construction!

The Cherokee County School District is one of the best in the nation! Students consistently score some of the highest SAT and ACT scores in the state and nation, and the school district has consistently maintained higher graduation rates than the state.

Looking for higher or continuing education options? Look no further than your own backyard! Reinhardt University in is located in northern Cherokee, in the city of Waleska, and Chattahoochee Technical College has locations across North Georgia.

Cherokee’s Cities

When you move to Cherokee County, you get the best of both worlds: small town life and vibrant city life. Each city has its own unique feel, from relaxing horse farms to exciting events and quality shops.

 

Canton is the county seat of Cherokee, with a laid back but thriving downton area, several community events, restaurants, and shops. Canton is home to several wonderful parks, and the amazing Cherokee County aquatic center.

 

Woodstock is Cherokee’s largest city, with a bustling downtown area, which plays host to a summer concert series, Friday night events, and plenty of other community events. Woodstock has its own multi-use (walk, run, bike) trail system, and tons of parks.

 

Ball Ground is a smaller city than Woodstock or Canton, but has a quaint downtown area with shops, restaurants, and events. Ball Ground and Waleska, two of the county’s northernmost cities, are great places to get away from the hustle and bustle of South Cherokee, relax, and take in the mountain views. Other cities in Cherokee include Holly Springs and a portion of Nelson. Holly Springs is situated next to Woodstock and Canton, and Nelson is farther north toward Jasper.

Looking for information and local news? The Cherokee Tribune and Ledger News is the local paper. Follow their social media, website, or subscribe to the paper or online newspaper to keep up with current events.

 

The Sequoyah Regional Library System has libraries throughout Cherokee County and is a great place to spend the afternoon.

If you need to change your car, license, and voter information, you can go to the Georgia Department of Driver Services Cherokee Customer Service Center in Canton, GA, visit the Cherokee County Car Tag Office, and check out this Cherokee County Voter Registration Information.

 

Throughout the county there are also several emergency service organizations, including Cherokee County Fire and Emergency Services, Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office, Cherokee County Marshal’s Office, and several local hospitals. When you build a custom home, energy efficiency is important. But what you might not have considered is the efficiency of your garage door. Here are some tips to make sure your garage door is as efficient as possible! Check out the infographic below for a checklist of items to focus on to maximize efficiency.

Insulate

Just like the rest of your house, it’s important to insulate your garage and garage door properly. It’s important to make sure the door itself is insulated, the seal between floor and walls is insulated, outlets should be insulated, and the garage walls should be insulated.

Seal Cracks

One thing you might not consider when it comes to efficiency are cracks in the garage floor. If you notice a crack in the garage floor, use concrete sealant to help prevent heat from escaping or cold air from seeping in.

Windows and Lights

Use Energy Star certified windows and low-watt light bulbs such as CFL or LED to make sure you aren’t wasting energy, and money! Check out the infographic for specific items to watch out for when it comes to garage efficiency!

Fall in North Georgia is one of the most beautiful times of the year!

Not only do residents and visitors get to enjoy gorgeous fall leaves, there are also a number of great family-centered events in North Georgia each fall. Here are some of our favorites!

Gibbs Gardens Monet Waterlily Festival
Located at the beautiful Gibbs Gardens in Ball Ground, Georgia, this fall festival features a French market with handcrafted breads, desserts, crepes, fruits, vegetables, spices, soaps, and more. Arts and crafts vendors showcase and sell work from watercolor painting and pottery, to wood crafts and photography. The festival is held annually in celebration of the garden’s 140 varieties of blooming waterlilies, set in a pond with a Monet-style bridge as the backdrop. On the weekends, festival-goers can enjoy various types of live classical music.

Georgia Apple Festival
Another great fall festival in North Georgia is the well-loved Georgia Apple Festival in Ellijay. Held each October, the festival has been a staple in Gilmer County for more than 45 years! Whether you’re interested in browsing hundreds of arts and craft vendors, or trying some of the state’s best apple-themed foods, this festival is a great choice for the family.

Fall Arts in the Park
If you’re looking for a little smaller but still wonderful festival to enjoy this fall, why not try Fall Arts in the Park, held in Downtown City Park in Blue Ridge, Georgia. This festival features about 100 arts and craft vendors, plenty of food, and even has a kid’s art area. This is a great way to get out and enjoy the fall foliage while enjoying art with the family!
