Custom Lake House

This custom lakefront home in the Lake Arrowhead community is located in the northern part of Cherokee County, nestled in the woods with access to two private lakes! This stacked stone and siding home is decorated with a wrought iron door at the entrance, and features a spacious open concept living and kitchen space. You may be asking yourself, is now a good time to build a custom home? Some clients may have reasons to wait, but for most people, now is the perfect time to start building your new custom home, and here’s why.

  1. Get the land you want

Finding the right property to build your custom home can be challenging, but with more and more land being claimed, it’s best to get it while you can. The 2021 housing market is great for sellers, but the demand for homes is greater than available inventory. Lots are getting purchased for new home construction, so it’s important to choose your desired location and get land while you still can. By purchasing your lot now, you can build your own custom dream home in the perfect location for you!

  1. Financing

With interest rates low, now is the ideal time for financing a new custom home. While construction prices may seem high, the low interest available after the Federal Reserve slashed rates recently means saving big money on a mortgage. This opportunity won’t be available forever, and in 2021 you can likely pay less than you might have back in 2019! It’s a great time to take advantage of low interest rates while you can!

  1. Plan now

Building a custom home takes time, from purchasing supplies and designing a floor plan, all the way to construction and move-in. Think about when you want your home to be move-in ready, and plan now to achieve that goal.

  1. Demand may rise

With people putting off their custom home project because of the pandemic beginning in 2020, there’s no telling when demand may pick back up. If you want to make sure you have a builder secured and a timeline for completion of your new custom dream home, it’s important to get started now. That way, if demand picks up as new customers start projects they’ve been putting off, you’ll already be well on your way to a new home!

North Georgia offers tons of spectacular places to build a custom home, but what about those who have to commute to work in and around Atlanta? Luckily, these north Georgia communities allow you to live where you want, and still commute to the city in a short amount of time.

Cherokee County

With access to Atlanta via major thoroughfares like Interstate-575 and Highway 20, Cherokee County is just a short drive from the big city. Most areas in Cherokee have about a 35-55 minute drive to the heart of downtown Atlanta, but you can reach the perimeter in as little as 20 minutes, making this north metro community a great choice for those who will be commuting to Atlanta for work.

Pickens County

Another great choice for daily commuters is Pickens County. Located just north of Cherokee, this county is located just under an hour from the city. For those who don’t mind a bit longer drive to work, Pickens offers a more secluded natural landscape, while still being within commuting distance from downtown I-575 and Highway 20.

Bartow County

Situated slightly more west of Atlanta are cities like Cartwerville and Emerson, which can have as little as a 35-minute drive to the city. A short commute on I-75 or Highway 20 can get you directly to the heart of Atlanta, making Bartow another great choice for those who want to live in north Georgia and have a shorter commute.

Gilmer County

Depending on how far you’re comfortable commuting to and from work, Gilmer County might be another option for those who want to live in the mountains but be close enough to still drive into the city. With a trip of a little over an hour from Ellijay to the perimeter, Gilmer County may be a good choice for those who only have to go into the city a few times a week.

Gordon County

Another option that’s about an hour drive from the I-285 perimeter is Gordon County. With plenty of natural peace and solitude, those who don’t mind a bit longer commute may choose this county. It’s also a great place for people who only occasionally have to make their way into Atlanta.

Dawson County

Finally, Dawson County offers a third option for living in northwest Georgia, while still being only a little over an hour away from Atlanta. If this sounds like the right distance for you, Dawson also offers a wonderful place to live without being too far from the city.

The natural beauty of this blackwater lake dotted with old cypress trees is one to remember. “What a gem of a restaurant in downtown Jasper! We came for the Monday night supper which was a superb and very hearty home cooked meal for only $13. The meal came with generous servings. “Yum! What a treat! While in town on business I was recommended to try this BBQ place by multiple locals. It did not disappoint. I ordered the pork platter with two sides (slaw and potato). It also came with some of the best cornbread I’ve had in a long while. The pulled pork just melts in your mouth and the BBQ original sauce is sweet with a little tang. “If you pass by Bub-Ba-Q because it looks like a hole in the wall, you’re missing out. It doesn’t look fancy and it’s not, but the best barbecue, in my humble opinion, doesn’t come from fancy restaurants. Bub-Ba-Q is clean, the staff is friendly, and the service is great. I am a Texan now living in Jasper and we Texans know our barbecue. Theirs is a nice mix of Kansas City, Memphis, North Carolina, and Texas, so all barbecue lovers will be happy. If you live in Pickens County or surrounding areas and aren’t sure what to do for fun, look no further than your own community! Here are some great places you can visit near home.

Amicalola Falls State Park and Lodge

The tallest cascading waterfall in the southeast, Amicalola Falls is a gorgeous 729-foot waterfall with steps leading to the top and plenty of vistas along the way, especially at the top! Or if you prefer a more rugged way to the top, you can head out the back of the visitor’s center to a hiking trail that winds around the beautiful north Georgia mountain laurel and hardwoods, finishing just above the waterfall, where you can enjoy a picnic at one of several tables or in well-kept grassy areas. From the top of the falls, you can walk over a bridge to look directly out over the creek and it begins its long fall to the pool at the bottom. Or, if you’re looking for a nearby getaway, there’s a rustic lodge where you can enjoy a weekend like no other!

Historic Buildings in Georgia

It’s always interesting to learn about the history of the area you live in, and Pickens County has some great options for this! The old Pickens County Jail was built with a brick and marble exterior, with the marble coming from Southern Mill in nearby Marble Hill, GA. Built in 1906 to replace the 2nd jail in the county since its charter in 1853, the Marble Valley Historical Society, Inc. now owns the historic building, and maintains it and offers tours. The Kirby–Quinton Cabin is another historic building in Pickens. It’s log structure is used to “teach students about their mountain heritage and life on the north Georgia frontier,” according to VisitPickensGA.com.

Gibbs Gardens

One of America’s largest gardens, you can explore a diverse set of gardens over this 220 acre property. With 24 ponds, 32 bridges, 19 waterfalls, and gardens ranging from a field of daffodils, Japanese gardens, and a fern dell, to a sculpture garden, rose garden, and native azaleas, one trip here is never enough time to see everything! In addition to the stunning flora, Gibb’s Gardens also hosts art events. Check their website for more information!
