Open Floor Plans
So you’re planning your new custom home. Choosing the footprint, deciding on a floor plan, picking out your deck size… and you’ve heard of “open floor plans”.
The trend toward more open floor plans may be recent, but it’s one trend that’s here to stay.
Generally when people talk about an open floor plan, they’re referring to the general living space being more open than in previous decades. This means less walls, an easier flow from room-to-room, a bigger combined area rather than smaller walled-off rooms, and better space for entertaining.
Open floor plans can make you feel like your house is even bigger than it is, and can feel more relaxing than having individual rooms that can sometimes feel cramped. Usually in modern open floor plans, the kitchen, living room, and dining area, will all be connected like one big open space. Each area may have distinct details to separate it from the other spaces, but in an open floor plan it will still flow effortlessly from one area to the next.
Not only do open floor plans offer more efficient entertaining and a more breathable feel for your home, but they can also make your space feel luxurious, especially if part of your living area has high ceilings and big windows to let in the light!
