The construction process
Each step in your new home's construction — start to finish.
From permitting to your final walk-through and beyond, here's what to expect at each stage of construction — and you'll follow every phase live in your Home Portal, with weekly photos, your budget, and one-tap approvals.

1
Permitting
Once your house plans, specifications, selections, and financing are complete, we're ready to start permitting the job. This may take several weeks depending on where you're building and the local requirements.

-
2
Site Preparation
Once the building permit is pulled, we start site prep — usually a construction entrance and permit box first. We meet with you to talk through utilities, the driveway, and tree clearing. If you'd like additional grading or clearing beyond what the house needs, now's the time.

-
3
The Foundation
Once site prep is complete we begin forming your home's foundation. This is a critical phase and we take it very seriously. Your foundation is built per the foundation drawing and our engineer's review. After engineering approval we pour, and let the concrete cure adequately before moving on.

Construction of the House
An exciting stage — you'll watch your house take shape. Framing, roofing, siding, windows, doors, paint, and decks bring the exterior to life. Inside, we simultaneously run plumbing, HVAC, electrical, insulation, sheetrock, trim, cabinets, and countertops until the home is complete.

Walk-Throughs
We meet with you at 10 specific times during construction — "walk-throughs" — where we review your specifications and selections with the subcontractors so everyone's on the same page. It's a great chance to ask questions and get a subcontractor's opinion.

Final Walk-Through
Your opportunity to help us identify any defects we may have missed. We recommend walking the house on your own, taking your time, before we meet — so we can build a complete punch list. Once corrected and the final touch-ups are done, you're ready to take possession of the home!

Warranty
After 30 days or so in your new home, send us a list of any adjustments needed — a cabinet door, say — and we'll schedule the work. For emergencies, call us or the subcontractor immediately. Just before your one-year anniversary, send any other items you feel should be under warranty and we'll review and schedule them.
Our homes are backed by a 10-year structural warranty from 2-10, the nation's leading home insurer.
