The Fawn Ridge sits on a wooded lot in Woodstock, and at 6,546 heated square feet it is one of the largest homes we have built — a main floor, a second story, and a separate apartment, all under one roof.
The plan is built around gathering. A great room anchors the main floor with a fireplace at its center, opening to the kitchen and dining so the three read as one space. A separate living room and a sun room give quieter places to land, and an office sits off the foyer for the work that follows people home. The kitchen is set up for real cooking: a 48-inch Ilve induction range with double ovens in antique white and brass, a Sub-Zero built-in refrigerator, and a walk-in pantry. The butler's pantry carries a second Sub-Zero, Wolf wall and steam ovens, and a warming drawer.
A spiral staircase turns between the floors, one of several pieces of custom millwork carried through the house. Six bedrooms and six full baths spread across two floors, plus a powder room off the main living space — six and a half in all. The owner's suite keeps to the main level with its own bath and walk-in closet. Upstairs, a loft and a bunkroom — with bunks built in place rather than bought — make room for the overflow that comes with a house built for company.
Outside, a covered front porch and a 303-square-foot covered rear patio look onto the pool and spa, with a pool house alongside. Fieldstone and brick ground the elevations, board-and-batten siding carries the upper walls, and metal roofing accents pick out the porches against the shingle above. A three-car garage sits on the end.
The 1,076-square-foot apartment is fully separate and fully heated — a guest suite, a place for family, or a rental, depending on the season of life.
