The Lilya -
Completed in 2023 on a wooded lot in Ellijay, The Lilya commits fully to the farmhouse idea. Stacked porches run the full width of the front elevation across both stories, carried on white columns with ceiling fans on every bay, and an arched iron-and-glass double door sits at the center beneath a hanging lantern.
The entry opens through a paneled column into a formal dining room finished with picture-frame wainscoting below the chair rail and a bronze ring chandelier above. Wide-plank hand-scraped hardwood runs through the main level under deep crown molding.
The great room is the heart of the house. The ceiling vaults to a rough-sawn ridge beam, and a floor-to-ceiling stacked stone fireplace anchors the far wall between two sets of doors onto the rear deck. A run of sliders takes most of the adjoining wall, so on a clear day the room is mostly glass and trees.
The kitchen is the part everyone remembers, and the copper in it was our suggestion rather than the homeowners’ — a hammered farmhouse sink below the window, and a curved range hood left to patinate above the gas cooktop. White shaker cabinetry runs floor to ceiling around them, hardware and faucet in matte black, cream subway tile behind, golden granite throughout. A pass-through opens onto the screened porch so whoever is cooking is never shut away from it.
Two rooms off the main level are worth their own mention. The walk-in pantry runs deep, painted shelving on both sides and a window at the far end. A study carries floor-to-ceiling built-ins in rough weathered wood, wrapping the corner of the room, with the porch through the windows opposite.
In the primary bath, a soaking tub sits in a tiled alcove beneath its own window, oil-rubbed bronze fittings throughout and a furniture-style vanity alongside.
At the back the house steps down its slope into two further levels of covered porch — black horizontal railings here rather than the traditional ones out front — above a walkout patio on the basement level.
The Lilya holds five bedrooms, four full baths and two half baths across 4,738 square feet of finished space, with the basement, garage and porches bringing the structure to roughly 7,750 square feet in all. Floor plans for both levels are at the end of the gallery below. Built by Precision Custom Home Builders in Ellijay, GA — Gilmer County, North Georgia.
