Open and free for the public to visit and enjoy, the Rock Garden has free parking and picnic areas, and is open year round, so you can wander through the grounds and explore at your own pace. Pets are welcome, and the garden is family-friendly.
Amazing folk art
Completely hand built by volunteers, the garden contains more than 50 miniature buildings, made of pebbles, shells, old glass, broken ceramic, cement, and other materials. These artistically crafted miniature building imitate churches, homes, and some even have stained-glass windows! Small figures of people and animals can be found around the buildings, and there’s even a miniature building modeled after the Notre Dame cathedral in Paris.
Miniatures
There’s so much to explore and discover at the Rock Garden. You may find miniature replicas of whole cities, of ancient landmarks, and bridges traversing over water. If you’re able to catch a look inside some of the buildings, you may see colorful light bouncing onto the interior walls of a miniature building, through its stained glass windows.
History
The garden was built by DeWitt “Old Dog” Boyd, who began creating the miniature and whimsical buildings and tiny towns for his own children as they lived in different placed. In 2007, he began building the Rock Garden behind the Calhoun Seventh Day Adventist Church, where it grew to what it is today.
