“This is a really fun place. So much fun memorabilia to look at in this quirky little restaurant and the food is delish. I had the fried shrimp and homemade parmesan chips and my hubby had the tequila chicken and both were great. The first thing that stood out for me was that the food was seasoned well. So often restaurants lately go light on seasoning and many times you have to add salt because the food is bland but not at Ate Track. This chef knows how to season food! Finding the right property to build your custom home can be challenging, but with more and more land being claimed, it’s best to get it while you can. The 2021 housing market is great for sellers, but the demand for homes is greater than available inventory. Lots are getting purchased for new home construction, so it’s important to choose your desired location and get land while you still can. By purchasing your lot now, you can build your own custom dream home in the perfect location for you!

  1. Financing

With interest rates low, now is the ideal time for financing a new custom home. While construction prices may seem high, the low interest available after the Federal Reserve slashed rates recently means saving big money on a mortgage. This opportunity won’t be available forever, and in 2021 you can likely pay less than you might have back in 2019! It’s a great time to take advantage of low interest rates while you can!

Cherokee County

With access to Atlanta via major thoroughfares like Interstate-575 and Highway 20, Cherokee County is just a short drive from the big city. Most areas in Cherokee have about a 35-55 minute drive to the heart of downtown Atlanta, but you can reach the perimeter in as little as 20 minutes, making this north metro community a great choice for those who will be commuting to Atlanta for work.

Pickens County

Another great choice for daily commuters is Pickens County. Located just north of Cherokee, this county is located just under an hour from the city. For those who don’t mind a bit longer drive to work, Pickens offers a more secluded natural landscape, while still being within commuting distance from downtown I-575 and Highway 20.

Bartow County

Situated slightly more west of Atlanta are cities like Cartwerville and Emerson, which can have as little as a 35-minute drive to the city. A short commute on I-75 or Highway 20 can get you directly to the heart of Atlanta, making Bartow another great choice for those who want to live in north Georgia and have a shorter commute.

Gilmer County

Depending on how far you’re comfortable commuting to and from work, Gilmer County might be another option for those who want to live in the mountains but be close enough to still drive into the city. With a trip of a little over an hour from Ellijay to the perimeter, Gilmer County may be a good choice for those who only have to go into the city a few times a week.

Gordon County

Another option that’s about an hour drive from the I-285 perimeter is Gordon County. With plenty of natural peace and solitude, those who don’t mind a bit longer commute may choose this county. It’s also a great place for people who only occasionally have to make their way into Atlanta.

Dawson County

Finally, Dawson County offers a third option for living in northwest Georgia, while still being only a little over an hour away from Atlanta. If this sounds like the right distance for you, Dawson also offers a wonderful place to live without being too far from the city.

If you’re thinking about or have already started building a custom home in Georgia, you’ll be deciding what kind of plants will go in your landscape. If you aren’t familiar with common landscaping plants, or if you’re just looking for some colorful inspiration this spring, it’s the perfect time to look around your area and see what kinds of spring colors you’d like to incorporate into your own yard!

 

One great way to get an idea for the types of plants that may be available, is to visit your local hardware store and walk through the gardening section. This will give you an idea of what is typically sold and what kinds of plants you may be able to choose for your own landscape. Look at how tall plants get, if they’re evergreen or not, and whether they have spring blossoms. Taking notes to discuss with your landscaper can help make sure you get exactly what you want!

 

Another great way to get a feel for how finished and maturing landscapes look, is to keep an eye out for plants and landscapes you like in your area. What kinds of trees and plants did the homeowner choose, and how do they look together? Seeing mature plants and trees in bloom can give you a better idea of how your yard might grow and change over time, and may help influence your choice of plants for your home.

1. Etowah Indian Mounds State Park

This important prehistoric site is a great place to spend the day! With a hiking trail to the mounds, a museum with Native American artifacts, and of course the intriguing mounds themselves, Etowah Indian Mounds State Park is an excellent choice for a family adventure or a hike with your significant other!

 “My husband and I took a morning to go up the road to visit Etowah Indian Mounds. We’ve started to check out the Ga State parks and this was next on our list. I thought this would be just putting a check mark by the name but, boy, was i wrong! We went around the middle of November, the leaves were still very pretty and the day was chilly but sunny. The museum is well laid out and gives easy and interesting info about the Indians that lived here. The mounds are impressive and the walk by the Etowah River and along the perimeter led to some interesting observations as to the life of these long ago GA inhabitants. 2. Red Top Mountain State Park

With 15 miles of trails for hiking enthusiasts, this park is great for nature photography, fishing, shore walks, and swimming when the weather is warm! Complete with an 1860s homestead, bike paths, and picnic shelters, you can’t go wrong with a visit to the beautiful state park!

 “We spent three nights tent camping, right on the lake. This is a beautiful area, with a well kept and clean camping area. Campground was very quiet during the week. 3. Pine Mountain Recreation Area

Another great park situated in the mountains is Pine Mountain Recreation Area. With hiking and biking trails, and some breathtaking views from atop Pine Mountain, this is a great park for those who enjoy primitive hiking! A destination hike for locals and visitors alike, this shaded path boasts beautiful trees and wildlife.

 “The Pine Mountain trail is easy to find, just turn east off of the Main Street Exit in Cartersville and you run into the adequately large parking lot. I hiked the west trail loop in about 2 hours which includes some strenuous steep sections. Most of the trail is moderate so do not avoid this trail because of a few steep sections. The sunset view from the summit was spectacular. The trail is well marked and well maintained.” –Doctor from Savannah, Georgia

 

4. Cooper’s Furnace Day Use Area

History, hiking, picnics, and fishing, are just some of the many ways to enjoy a day at Cooper’s Furnace. Because of a large dam, which you can hike to the top of for a great view, this spot isn’t open for swimming, but that shouldn’t be a problem with so many other ways to enjoy this beautiful area!

Pavilions with grills and picnic tables are available. grassy lawns beckons children’s games. The park is clean, well kept and secure. Uphill hike to get to the top of the dam is sure to work off lunch. 5. Allatoona Pass

Lake Allatoona has no shortage of day use areas and trails, but Allatoona Pass is a month the highest rated of all areas around the lake. The site of one of the Civil War’s worst battles, this area is now home to historic markers and beautiful trails. It makes a great place to get out into nature and reflect.
